Battery Charger FAQ – What’s Normal and What’s NotUpdated 3 hours ago

⚡ Battery Charger FAQ – What’s Normal and What’s Not

❓ Why does my charger feel hot when it’s charging?

It’s completely normal for a battery charger to feel warm or even hot to the touch while in use. Chargers work by converting AC wall power into DC battery power, and that process generates heat. Depending on the charger style, the case may feel anywhere from 95–140 °F (35–60 °C).

If you smell burning plastic, see melting/discoloration, or the charger is too hot to touch, unplug immediately and contact support.

❓ How hot is too hot?

A charger that feels warm or hot but still touchable is usually fine.
If it becomes too hot to hold for more than a second (~149 °F / 65 °C), that’s a warning sign. Stop charging and let it cool before using again.

❓ Do different chargers run at different temperatures?

Yes.

  • Brick-style chargers (BMZ type): Run warm, usually around 104–131 °F.

  • Compact ribbed chargers (High Degree type): Feel hotter because of smaller size, often up to 140 °F.

  • Smart 4-stage chargers: Run cooler overall, since they reduce output as the battery nears full charge.

❓ What can I do to keep my charger safe?

  • Place it on a hard surface (like a table, bench, or garage floor).

  • Keep it uncovered for ventilation — avoid carpet, bags, or stacking items on top.

  • Use indoors only, away from direct sunlight or extreme heat.

  • Unplug when not in use.

❓ When should I stop using my charger?

Unplug it and contact support if you notice:

  • A burning smell or melting plastic

  • Buzzing or clicking noises

  • The charger shuts itself off repeatedly

  • Visible damage, cracks, or discoloration

❓ Why does the charger cool down near the end of charging?

Some chargers (like our 4-stage smart charger) automatically reduce power once the battery is nearly full. This protects the battery and makes the charger run cooler. It’s a good thing!

Bottom line: Warm-to-hot chargers are normal. Too hot to touch, bad smells, or unusual behavior are not. When in doubt, unplug it and reach out to us.
